About St. Marienkirche

St. Mary's by Alexanderplatz is the oldest Berlin parish church still used for worship, a Gothic brick hall church first securely documented in 1294. It is the seat of the Berlin provost, has served as the bishop's church of the regional Protestant church, and has hosted guest preachers including Martin Luther King.

Today it belongs to the merged St. Marien-Friedrichswerder parish of about 4,800 members. Alongside German services, an Anglican congregation holds an English Eucharist here every Sunday, and the parish runs a soup kitchen and food aid.
